Events Field
Over the last number of years Wicksteed Park has become increasingly popular with our Visitors for the diverse range of events that are staged on the site. The Park is the home to a number of annual events which are organised by the Park itself or in conjunction with a range of partners including charities, car owners / enthusiasts, the local media and in some cases local businesses.
The Events field sited between the Wicksteed Railway and the Lakeside area is ideal for events, not only due to its location, but also because of the fact that it is flat with easy access to set up or break down an event.
Each year begins with 'Crazy Hats' day in which local people are encouraged to create their own weird and wonderful hats and then take part in a number of activities to raise money for a local charity. This event has grown considerably over the years from a small group of people to an event which now involves thousands. Other charity events include a 'Dragon Boat' race across the main lake in which upto 20 local businesses take part to raise money once again for a local charity.
The Park is the home to a number of Caravan Rallies and Car enthusiast clubs who gather for a weekend from across the country to share with friends, fellow enthusiasts and the general public their passions for Caravanning or a specific make / type of vehicle.
Adjacent to the Events Field is the 'Model Boating Lake' which hosts a number of events throughout the year, including local, regional and national regatta's. These events bring yet another dimension to the appeal of the Park, with models ranging from yachts through to Aircraft carriers. The Model Boating Lake, is not just for enthusiasts and our local club welcomes new members or visitors that would like to find out more about the hobby.
Another highlight of the year includes a 'Steam Gala Weekend' in which the Parks welcomes steam traction engines, steam Railway engines, classic and vintage vehicles and other interested entusiasts.
Hot Air Balloons can often been seen launching or landing on the Park grounds, depending on the weather.
